The Team
Womensline is a 24/7/365 free crisis helpline for women and children across Queensland experiencing domestic and family violence. They operate from an intersectional feminist framework, acknowledging that domestic and family violence is gender-based violence, predominantly perpetrated by men against women and children. They provide immediate individualised support and options to help victim/survivors feel safe again, whether they want to stay in the home, are thinking about leaving or have already left.

Your Role
The First Nations Practitioner role is a full-time fixed term contract until December 2026, with the possibility of extension.
This role offers guidance on culturally safe practices with First Nations callers through real-time consults, case reviews, and brief sessions. It includes reviewing risk, presentation, and documentation relating to First Nations callers, and providing advice to leadership on appropriate responses. The First Nations Practitioner supports staff handling complex calls, leads continuous improvement activities, and develops work guides, procedures, and workflows to enhance cultural safety.
Additionally, the role fosters relationships with sector and non-sector partners, addressing issues and proactively engaging in partnership-building. It also collaborates with the Service Integration Coordinator to establish state-wide service relationships, potentially involving travel.
Position Requirements
- It is a genuine requirement of this position to be filled by a woman as permitted in sections 25, 104 and 105 of the Anti-Discrimination Act, 1991.
- Minimum 2 years of professional experience in social and community services at a mid-senior level.
- Skilled in needs identification, risk assessments, safety planning, complex case management, and delivering referrals.
- Ability to apply frameworks addressing gendered violence against women and children.
- Experience in providing culturally safe guidance to support First Nations peoples affected by domestic, family, or sexual violence.
- Strong relationship-building skills with sector and non-sector partners.
- Leadership experience in training, guiding, and supporting teams.
- Ability to solve problems and make decisions under pressure.
- Excellent verbal and written communication for team and stakeholder engagement.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize, and ensure efficient workflow.
- Well-developed IT skills.

- Willingness to undergo national police check facilitated by employer prior to commencing employment.
- Valid photo ID.

Desirable
- Completed (or working towards) a tertiary qualification in Behavioural Science, Social Work, Human Services, or other relevant fields
- Experience working for a not-for-profit organisation, preferably within the DFSV sector or similar.
- Knowledge and understanding about the Domestic and Family Violence Protection Act 2012
