About the Program

Staying on Track is a Queensland Government initiative supporting young people transitioning from youth detention back into the community. Each young person receives up to 12 months of personalised support, including intensive mentoring, case management, and connection to education, training, employment, and cultural or community activities.

The Mentor role can be based out of the organisation’s Zillmere or Caboolture location.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build strong, trust-based mentoring relationships with young people.
  • Support cultural connection through Elder-led activities, yarning circles, and on-Country experiences.
  • Provide intensive transition support pre and post release, including advocacy and practical assistance.
  • Help develop life skills, routines, emotional regulation and prosocial behaviours.
  • Assist with education, training, and employment pathways.
  • Identify and respond to risks, ensuring safety and compliance with Youth Justice and organisational procedures.

Role Requirements

  • Availability to undertake on-call duties one weekend per month, with compensation via TOIL or an additional allowance.
  • Ability to engage respectfully with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people.
  • Experience or strong capability in mentoring, youth work, coaching, or related support roles.
  • Understanding of trauma-informed and culturally safe practice.
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to work independently in community settings and maintain accurate documentation.

Probity Requirements

  • Minimum Certificate III in Community Services or related field
  • Current QLD Driver Licence
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a ‘Positive Notice’ Blue Card (Working with Children Check).
  • First Aid and CPR certification, or willingness to obtain (the employer will cover this cost).
  • Willingness to undergo a National Police and Criminal History Check (the employer will cover this cost).

Remuneration and Benefits

  • SCHADS Level 3 – $76,376.56 – $81,906.76 per year + 12% super
